Essential Gear for Documentary Travel Shoots

The video covers my Three Top Tips for easier travel shoots, focusing on gear and preparation for a three-and-a-half-week documentary shoot with a small crew of three (myself, a producer, and a location sound mixer).

I emphasizes the importance of balancing minimal gear with having enough equipment to complete the job. The tips include obtaining a media pass to waive check-in fees for luggage, using HPRC cases for transporting tripods and other equipment, and maximizing space in carry-on luggage and backpacks.

I then detail the specific gear I’m bringing for the documentary shoot in a remote location, including cameras (FX6, FX30, GoPro Hero 8, DJI Air 2S), lenses (Blazar Remus 1.5x, fixed silver set), filters (Hollywood Blackmagic, ND filters, Freewell V2 Magnetic Variable ND plus CPL), and audio gear (Audio Technica AT875R, Deity S Mic 2, Rode Wireless Go 2, Sennheiser G4 Lavalier pack, Tascam FR-AV2 recorder).
