Back To Sony – FS7 + A7III

So we’re back to Sony land friends. 3 Years ago I was using the Sony A6500 and A7RII, since then we’ve been on different camera systems (Canon 1DX II, BMPCC 4K, Panasonic GH5), renting other cameras for specific projects and have come full circle to the Sony ecosystem of cameras.

Today I wanted to provide an in-depth video of why I chose to go back to Sony and how the Sony FS7 and A7III are fulfilling my production needs for commercial and documentary projects.

The Perfect Camera Trap – FEATURING SONY FS7

How often do we find ourselves unknowingly looking for the perfect camera? The camera that has solid dynamic range, high frame rate options, internal 10-bit 422 codecs, built in NDs, great audio options? Sounds too good to be true right?

SONY FS7 WITH SLR MAGIC APO

I’ve spent years working with a range of cameras from small form factor cameras like the BMPCC 4K, Sony A7RII, Canon 1DX Mark II and larger cameras like the Canon C300, FS7, RED SCARLET-W – they are all great cameras at what they do but is there a BEST CAMERA for my needs???

Spend a few minutes with me today on what I call “The Perfect Camera Trap” and hopefully what I say helps you on your own journey.

P.S This is my new main production camera, the SONY FS7 😉

DEPTH OF FIELD MICRO FOUR THIRDS – BMPCC 4K

In today’s video we’re talking about depth of field on micro four thirds sensors. People have said you can’t get shallow depth of field on micro four thirds sensors, that full frame and large format give you more – in many cases that is true. Yet, with the advancements made on speedboosters and very fast native micro four thirds lenses we can get very good depth of field using cameras like the bmpcc 4k and gh5.

I’ve provided a few test shots for you guys using the SLR Magic 25mm APO Microprime T2.1, a great option for anyone getting into the world of cinematography without having to fork over $10,000 for a singe lens. Also in the test footage is the Sigma 18-35 F1.8 with a Viltrox 0.71x speedbooster, at F1.8 and F1.4 to get some variation. We also compare the SLR Magic 25mm Microprime T1.5 for MFT and the Sigma 18-35 without a speedbooster to show the variance in depth of field.

Test #1 @3:53 Minutes
Test #2 @8:16 Minutes
Test #3 @11:30 Minutes

HOW TO STABILIZE HANDHELD VIDEO – EASYRIG MINIMAX

In this video i’m reviewing my favorite piece of filmmaking gear to help stabilize handheld footage, the easyrig! I own the Easyrig Minimax and it’s helped me stabilize handheld footage for documentaries, commercial filmmaking and branded content.

There’s a place and time for chaotic filmmaking but when you want the subtle movements of body language and emotionality from a scene and want the handheld look, I can’t think of a better way to get rid of micro jitters and shaky video than by using the Easyrig.

I show a few example footage of using the easyrig and how it helps to stabilize handheld footage as well as a brief overview of the easyrig minimax itself and how I set it up fo handheld filmmaking.

Investing vs Buying Gear

YouTube filmmaking friends! Today we’re talking about investing vs buying gear, specifically filmmaking gear of course. Whether it’s a light, a set of lenses, or a camera knowing the difference between what you’re investing in and what you’re simply buying as a means to an end can help save you money and frustrations as a business owner or freelance filmmaker.
